Lisa Patencio is a self taught artist.    She is an Athabascan Alaskan Native American who grew up in Yakima, Wa.  Her introduction to art began with her mother who made beautiful quilts, parkas and beading.  In 5th grade, Lisa was chosen for the "Company 7" art program.   This opened her world to art and instilled the desire to leave her home town and travel.  Her work has been in many exhibits.  Her book "Counting Butterflies in Cahuilla" was published by the Agua Caliente Cultural Museum.  Her short "The Legends of the Rattlesnake" played in a Native American Film Festival.   After raising 4 children, she returned to college in 2017 at the age of 53.  She continues to express in many forms including mixed media, assemblage and pendants.  Currently she resides in the Palm Springs Area with the love of her life,  Moraino Patencio/Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indian.

"I grew up away from family/culture.   I love Tribal Community I get to experience through my husband/children's tribe.   I am an observer, story teller and greatly spiritual.  As I grow as an artist, this reflects in my work"  Lisa Patencio
